I have never really considered myself obese but weight has always been on my mind. Every day I used to wake up thinking ‘today will be the day I'll eat right and exercise,’ but I never felt like I could meet my weight loss goals despite my desire to make healthy choices. I never felt completely satisfied with my body or my health, even though I thought I was doing everything right.
Managing my weight became more challenging after my children were born and I went back to work full time. Making time to go to the gym and planning meals became increasingly difficult, and I noticed that it was taking a toll on my health. Working long hours and commuting took time away from making healthy decisions, and I began to gain more weight than ever before. At work, I was always busy, sometimes even forgetting to eat during the day, but when I left work feeling I’d done a good job, I would treat myself to something at a drive thru, thinking I could make up all the calories I didn’t eat earlier. I wanted to change, but it just wasn’t happening with everything else going on in my life.
I tried to take control of my health by enrolling in a popular diet program and attending group meetings regularly, and while I did shed a few pounds, I gained them right back after stopping the program. After gaining back the weight, I knew I needed to make a change in my life. Every day I woke up lacking energy and wondered why I couldn’t lose this weight.
"I finally decided it was time to have a conversation with my doctor about my weight. Though I was intimidated to talk to him about such a sensitive topic, I’m so glad I did."
My doctor suggested several methods for losing weight, including going to the gym, walking 10,000 steps per day and changing my diet. However, after trying all of these things and still not losing weight, my doctor suggested BELVIQ®. My doctor explained the benefits and risks of BELVIQ and we determined it was an appropriate treatment for me, along with diet and exercise.
I was thrilled to finally try something that had the potential to help me meet my goals. Within the first few weeks, I knew that BELVIQ was working for me. This is the first time in my life where I feel like my weight loss goals are actually attainable. I have gone from weighing 178 pounds to 164 pounds, losing a little over 7 percent of my body weight. I am so happy to see the number on the scale going down. It’s amazing how the physical changes have made other aspects of losing weight so much easier. I find myself making healthier choices knowing that each choice is a small step towards my target weight.
Taking BELVIQ® helps me reduce the size of my portions and gives me the freedom to make healthy choices. I used to always eat ice cream with my husband because he enjoyed it so much, but now I don’t feel like I have to eat it with him, because I do not feel hungry all the time. I have the ability to say “no” to food that I don’t want to be eating.
I am so happy with the weight I have lost so far. I hope to keep up my progress and I’m excited to be more active in my life this year. My hope is to remain happy and healthy for many years to come.
